Scottish Football Journey

Galabank Stadium, Annan Athletic

I remember my trip to Annan very well. I didn't go there for a game, but went for a visit to the ground on my way back up from Bristol. I was picking my dad's new car up from there. First we had to get the train to Glasgow, then a plane to Bristol. My dad was getting a Renault Vel Satis from Harlequin Motors. We had to wait an hour before the salesman picked us up at the airport, which was annoying. But it was good to finally get the car and get moving back up the road. We were both starving and hadn't ate anything since 7.00 am, it was now about 4.30 pm. I was hoping to visit as many grounds in Scotland on our way back up if it wasn't too dark. I saw a few English grounds too including Walsall and I think I saw Blackpool's Bloomfield Road.

We arrived in Annan at around 7.00 and were desperate to find somewhere to eat. But first we searched for the Galabank Stadium. We asked a nearby women and she directed us to the Everholm Stadium, which was the current home of Gretna 2008 F.C. But luckily we found the ground after searching nearby the Everholm. Annan had recently stepped up from the East of Scotland League after Gretna F.C's extinction. They had recently put up floodlights and I could tell they were new. They were bright silver with no rust on any of the poles. I got out the car and took a few pictures of the ground. There was just a small stand which was a good size and looked alright. I would guess it would hold around 500 people.

The rest of the ground was for standing and no more cover was available. But to be fair they had only just stepped up so they have plently of time. It's a nice ground and looks well looked after. The pitch was reasonably flat and the stand's seats were decorated in yellow and black with the black seats spelling out "Annan Athletic". We then went to a restaurant and were absolutely starving. I had a lasagne and it was so good I finished in a matter of minutes I was that hungry. It's a shame I probably won't be going back to that restaurant as the staff were very friendly and the food was brilliant. But it was time to go home and the journey back home was a long and tiring one. But hopefully one day I will get to Annan for a game and will see a good game.
