Scottish Football Journey

Borough Briggs, Elgin City

I have been to Elgin City's Borough Briggs twice in my life. One was a game against Hamilton in the Scottish Cup, which ended 2-0 to Hamilton. This was quite some time ago, probably when I was just a toddler. The other was on my way up on holiday to a cottage in Culloden. I took a quick few photos of it before heading west to Culloden, which is just outside Inverness. Before I went to Borough Briggs, my dad and I stopped in Tesco, which is right next to it. We had been travelling for just over an hour and a half from 7.30 am. We hadn't eaten before our journey north, so we made sure we had a big breakfast at the cafeteria. It included for me, 2 lorne sausages, 2 tattie scones, beans, mushrooms, 2 fried bread, 2 black puddings and a hot chocolate, it was brilliant.

The first thing we could see at Borough Briggs was the main seated stand, we couldn't see over the walls surrounding the park so we walked into the stand and asked the nearest staff, who was kind enough in letting me walk past the offices and out into the park. The pitch looked flat and like a bowling green. Opposite was a large enclosure stretching across the length of the pitch and there was also of course, the stand we were standing in. It was full of black seats, about 400 of them. It was situated on the halfway line of the field and you had a good view wherever you sat. Mind you there wasn't anyone else in the ground to block our view, nor was there a game!

There's nothing I could say about Borough Briggs that I don't like, other than the fact I haven't seen a game I can remember what fully happened. Bearing in mind that Elgin City are a former Highland League side, they have designed their ground to an excellent standard and are sadly missed in the Highland League, which is still really competitive. Another thing is I have never seen Elgin play a game anywhere in the country, not even at Cove or Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup. But I have no doubt that the longer I continue my quest of visiting every Scottish League Stadium, I will definitely see Elgin play someone, whether it be Stranraer, Albion or Berwick Rangers.
