Links Park, Montrose
I've been to Links Park, Montrose once only. It was a pre season friendly between Montrose and Livingston. Livingston had just been promoted from Division 3 and Montrose had finished bottom so they were looking to show their fans some hope for the coming season. What you will notice about Links Park is the glass panels above the turnstiles with Montrose Football Club in white on the windows, which makes it look very professional. Inside, there is a large seated stand which no doubt holds around just over 1000. The good thing about this stand is there isn't any pillars that block your view and it is quite high so your can see the game from a high or low perspective.
There is a small enclosure behind the goal as you come in which is popular with the home and away fans as I saw. The rest of the ground is just for standing. The railings around the park are at a perfect height so you don't have to bend too low and hurt your back. The pitch is also astroturf which in my opinion, isn't great but it means less games will be postponed due to rain.
During the first half, Livingston were looking the better team and they opened the scoring in fantastic style. Good play led to Bobby Marr unleashing an unstoppable 25 yard drive into the top right hand corner leaving keeper Sandy Wood with no chance, well deserved. Veteran striker Robbie Winters double the advantage 15 minutes later when his shot was saved but he followed up with the rebound. Substitute Mark McNulty completed the scoring with the last kick of the game, slotting home a square ball from the impressive Barr from six yards out. Livingston were 3-0 winners and deservedly so. Montrose did come close but their best chance went just past the post.
Livingston played some good football in this game and looked very impressive indeed. I think they could be contenders for promotion to division 1 if they play like this. Montrose on the other hand will need to work hard in order to have a good season. They should be aiming for play offs at best.
