Balmoor Stadium, Peterhead
Balmoor Stadium is home to Peterhead and I will always remember the Peterhead v Aberdeen game for one reason, Bobby Mann scored a beautiful free kick into the top right hand corner. Jimmy Calderwood's Aberdeen side were looking to give their fans a good reason to follow them this coming season. But this was to be a game to forget, an absolute shocking display from Aberdeen and things didn't look too good. A Jeffery De Vischer corner was hit straight out of play, Darren Mackie was showing poor control, Lee Miller wasn't getting involved and so on.
Peterhead were much the better team and took a deserved lead 15 minutes into play, Neil McVitie did well to beat De Vischer and then played a long ball for Gunn to control and he turned Lee Mair and his shot went under the arms of Bossu. Gunn had another chance later but Stuart Duff cleared the ball off the line. On 27 minutes Aberdeen should have equalised, Jamie Smith's ball through to Darren Mackie was played to Maguire but his shot went well over. It was not to be Aberdeen's day and that showed when Peterhead doubled their lead when Graham Sharp made a good run down the left wing and his low cross was slotted home by the unmarked Martin Badvidge.
Allthough it was a pre season friendly, Jimmy Calderwood had a lot to say at half time. But his words couldn't inspire Aberdeen on. Early on 2nd half Lee Miller notched down a cross for Lee Mair, but his shot went over. A few minutes later Jeffrey De Vischer's shot went straight to the keeper. Aberdeen were just not up for it. 80 minutes had gone and all hope was put to rest went Stewart gave away a free kick about 35 yards from goal. Allthough it was quite a distance and Aberdeen had a very tall keeper in Bossu, Bobby Mann unleashed an unstoppable drive into the top left hand corner of the net. Even some of the Dons fans were applauding it was that good. The game was ended in the last minute when Kozminski finished off a neat move and won the game 4-0 for Peterhead.
Balmoor Stadium is one I have been to twice with Aberdeen, one win for each team. Both been good games and produced plenty of goals. There is 2 very similar looking seated stands which have good views of the pitch. Around the rest of the ground is space for standing and the railings are made of metal so they are in good condition. Overall Balmoor is a really neat and tidy park and a memorable place for me.
