Scottish Football Journey

Princess Royal Park, Deveronvale

When I first came to Princess Royal Park, I thought it was a neat and tidy ground. I came here for the Highland League Cup final with my dad. The game was Inverurie Locos against Cove Rangers. The game ended 3-1 to Locos and it was a horrible day. The rain was pouring and that was one of the factors I didn't like about PRP, it didn't have an enclosure. Which meant unless you were to sit in the stand (which I couldn't because it was full) then you were going to get soaked and so I did. But the most memorable game I attended here was the league game against Deveronvale. We were 8 points clear of them at the top of the table whilst they were 2nd. There wasn't a lot of games left in the league so Vale had to win this one. The game itself was pretty dull and nothing exciting was happening. Vale had took the lead in the 2nd half when the ball dropped to Graeme Watt and he lashed home from 10 yards.

The Vale fans were loving this, but no one had deserved to win this game. Just as it looked like Vale were to snatch the 3 points and put them well in the chase for the title, Eric Watson scrambled home an equaliser in the 93rd minute. It left my dad and I going mental. The Cove fans were celebrating like they had won the World Cup. A draw was the right result as no one stood out. This result helped Cove go on to win their 3rd Highland League title and 2nd in consecutive years. I have been to Princess Royal Park about 4 times now and I have never seen Cove win here, but each occasional has produced a lot of goals, the latest being 13, which involved the Vale under 19s losing to Keith under 19s 11-2 in a youth league competition.

I was watching this game because a few of my close mates play for the Vale team. Needless to say I won't be letting them forget this result. But to be fair it was the rest of the team that let them down. A poor performance by the young Vale side and it doesn't look good for Vale's future squad if this is them. But a few players in general were looking up for it and perhaps I might see them here in first team action soon.
