Scottish Football Journey

Claggan Park, Fort William

I haven't seen a game at Fort William. But when i went there I was treated to lovely hospitality by the staff in the social club. I was on holiday in Inverness and I wanted to go see Fort William's ground and so we did. When we got there, the first thing you noticed was the size of the hills/mountains behind the ground, they were huge! And as we were walking around taking pictures, a man came out of the social club and asked if he could help us and when we told him what we were doing, he offered us a drink in the club and so we did and had our lunch there too.

Their chairman, James Campbell came in and gave me a match programme of when they first put their floodlights up. It was a game against Hibernian when the floodlights were officially launched. He also gave me a book called "100 Years of the Highland League" which I have still to read. It included teams of Elgin, Peterhead, Inverness Thistle, Ross County and Caledonian, who are all now in the SFL (Caledonian and Inverness Thistle combined as Inverness C.T). The one thing you notice about Fort William and the west coast in general is how friendly the   people are compared to the East Coast.

It was really good to see and I wish Fort William all the best in the future years to come. The one and only stand looked as if it had been painted up and redecorated from other pictures. The one thing that amazed me most was the they could rotate their pitch so that their goals could face their stand or that they would face the social club. I will hopefully manage to see a game here one day.
