Scottish Football Journey

Christie Park, Huntly

Sadly my last visit to Christie Park was not a good one, neither was my first. Both games ending in defeats for Cove. The first being a 3-1 defeat to Inverurie Locos in the Highland League Cup Final and the last being a 3-1 defeat to Huntly in the league. The 3-1 defeat to Locos was a very horrible day, the rain was pouring but at least the ground had an enclosure and a stand. This in my opinion is the best ground in the league. There's plenty of space, a good enclosure, good stand and a good pie shop. But on the day of the Cup Final, it was to be my first game attended away from home. So I was getting a bit excited. However, Locos had taken the lead through Neil Mclean, gutted.

But fans favourite Barrie Stephen levelled things up soon after. Half time 1-1. But the 2nd half was a half to forget. Locos retook their lead through Neil Gauld before Kevin Tindal got a second booking leaving us with 10 men. Then Locos got a 3rd through Gary Nicol and to make things bad to worse, Eric Watson got a straight red in the closing stages. A disappointing away day but I have seen Cove win twice at Huntly, 1-0 and 4-0, both good games. I have also seen Huntly play Buckie Thistle here during Buckie's title winning season. The game ended 4-0 to Buckie Thistle and Huntly were going through a bad stage with John Teasdale in charge.

Loading...What you will notice about Christie Park is the large area behind each goal. Possibly for new stands? It would be good to see. The pies and drinks are very good here and the pie shop staff are friendly. It's definitely a good day out to Huntly and the breakfasts at asda are well done too, a good way to start your day.
