Harlaw Park, Inverurie Loco Works
Harlaw Park, home of Inverurie Loco Works is probably the ground I've been to the most apart from Cove. I have seen Locos play Buckie, Motherwell, Forres, Peterhead, Formartine and Cove several times at this ground. I do have to admit though, it's not my favourite ground in the league. First of all the pitch is on a slope and the area around the pitch is tight, also the stand is very old looking. But bar those negative comments, the enclosure is good and I have seen some very good games here. One in particular of which Cove lost. This was a Highland League Cup 1st round and a repeat of last year's final, which Locos won 3-1. This game had goals written all over it and how it was to be. The game started off poorly for Cove and Locos took a deserved 2-1 lead into the break through Broadhurst and Milne. Cove did pull a goal back on the half time whistle as David Smith's header at the back post gave the 2nd half an interesting story.
The 2nd half was mostly Cove and they got their deserved equaliser when a 25 yard strike from Robbie Henderson could only be palmed into the net from Andy Reid. No more goals were to come of this half and another 30 minutes of action was to come. The first 15 minutes saw Craid Ross header in a Neil Mclean cross into the net past the helpless Lee Windrum. Things were going Locos way and it looked as if that goal had won it but.....The last minutes of the 2nd half of extra time saw a scramble and Jerry O'Driscoll managed to poke the ball home to send the game to penalties.
Unfortunately Jerry missed his spot kick which would have won the game for Cove but it was not to be as Eric Watson's saved penalty sent Locos through to the next round to face Wick Academy. Although Cove did not win this game it was exciting and well worth value. The game was end to end stuff and both teams were out to attack one another. I've still to see Cove win here but I'm hopeful it will come sooner than later.
