Mackessack Park, Rothes

Mackessack Park, home of Rothes, is the one ground that is remembered for an unusual aspect, it's smell! The whiskey factory near the ground spreads off a disgusting stink to the area and is uncomfortable when being there, but is un noticeable when you get used to it. But this ground is very clean and well looked after. With no enclosure, there is only the small seated stand for cover. But one thing I will credit Rothes with is their pies. By far the best I have ever tasted. Along with some barbecue sauce, the pies were not too burnt, nor too soft, just perfection. On the same day, I saw 9 goals. 1 to Rothes, 8 to Cove. Funny thing was, it was 1-1 at half time.

The first goal came from Robbie Henderson and this wasn't to be his only goal. He notched on to Barrie Stephens low cross from the left and put Cove 1-0 up. But Rothes equalised towards the end of the half when the ball fell to Steven Flett. The man didn't need a second chance and he coolly slotted past McKenzie. That was to be the last action of the first half and I was getting worried.

But my thoughts of defeat were shattered when Robbie Henderson restored the lead when Steven Dunn's save dropped to Robbie and he reacted quickly to score his second of the day. Cove then got a third when the ball dropped to Danny Milne who blasted past Dunn. A fourth was added when clever play from Kevin Webster allowed the winger to slot the ball into the bottom left hand corner and make Cove comfortable. Robbie Henderson got 2 more goals in quick succession to give Cove a 6-1 lead and his 4th and final of the day. The scoring was complete when 2 goals from Kevin Webster gave himself a hat trick and Cove a thumping win. A good day out in Rothes and nothing to complain about the game. It's not every day you see goals, and good ones too!
